This Cole Valley home in San Francisco was transformed to better embrace its remarkable setting, opening it up to light, landscape, and family life. The lower level connects seamlessly to the rear yard and features a generous media room, home office, full bath, kitchenette, and a cozy reading nook — a favorite hideaway for the children. The kitchen and living areas on the main floor were renovated in a rich and layered material palette, and windows and doors were added to increase the visual and physical connection to the site. On the upper floor, the bedroom suites were thoughtfully refreshed with new finishes and fixtures that elevate comfort and functionality.
Despite the challenges of the steep San Francisco terrain, we were able to reclaim coveted indoor and outdoor areas – one seating area perched atop a 100-year-old rubble wall and decks oriented toward sweeping city views – creating inviting spaces that tie the entire home to its dramatic hillside surroundings.
